IMAGINARY - Views in 3-Manifolds

On the 7th European Congress of Mathematics, July 18 - 22, 2016, IMAGINARY presents 3 open interactive math-related exhibitions, among which "Views in 3-Manifolds", an international traveling exhibition coordinated by Pierre Berger with the participation of several artists and scientists: Pierre-Yves Fave, Luiz Velho, Sergio Krakowski, Alex Laier, Djalma Lucio, Jimena Royo Letelier.

"Views in 3-Manifolds" proposes a sensitive approach to the concept of space of dimension 3. By means of videos, sound-video installations, and landscape views, it offers an exploration into the imaginary world of the Geometrization Theorem (Thurston-Perelman 2002). Many artworks of the exhibition are based on new algorithms which render the first interior views in closed manifolds of each of the eight Thurston geometries, accomplishing a program inciated by W. Thurston in the Geometry center. Also for the first time, the acoustics of these spaces is modeled.
