Laureates of the 2018 Thematical Prizes of the French Académie des Sciences

PRIZES IN MATHEMATICS

Prix Marc Yor was awarded to Christophe Garban, Professor at Claude Bernard Lyon 1 University and a member of the Institut Camille Jordan (an Ecole centrale de Lyon, université Jean Monnet, CNRS, université Claude Bernard & INSA de Lyon maths lab) for his work in probabilities.

Prix Charles-Louis de Saulses De Freycinet was awarded to Damian Brotbek, associate professor at Strasbourg University and a member of the Institut de recherche mathématique avancée (a CNRS&université de Strasbourg maths lab). The Charles-Louis de Saulses De Freycinet prize is awarded every four years. It aims at encouraging researches in mathematics.

Prix Paul Doistau-Émile Blutet was awarded to Colin Guillarmou, Senior Researcher at the CNRS and a member of the Laboratoire de mathématiques d’Orsay (a CNRS & université Paris-Sud maths lab). The Paul Doistau-Émile Blutet prize is a biennal prize awarded to a scientist doing researches in mathematics.

Prix Élie Cartan  was awarded to Vincent Pilloni, Junior Researcher at the CNRS and a member of the Unité de mathématiques pures et appliquées (a CNRS & Ecole normale supérieure de Lyon maths lab). The Elie Cartan prize is awarded every three years. It aims at rewarding a mathematician of under 45 years old, whatever his or her nationality, who introduced new ideas or solved a difficult problem.

Médaille Émile Picard was awarded to Yves Colin de Verdière, Professor emeritus at Grenoble Alpes University and a member of the Institut Fourier (a CNRS & université Grenoble Alpes maths lab). The Emile Picard medal is awarded every six years to a mathematician.

PRIZES IN MECHANICS AND COMPUTER SCIENCES

Prix Michel Monpetit - INRIA in applied mathematics or computer science was awarded to Gérard Biau, Professor at Sorbonne Université and a member of the laboratoire de probabilités, statistiques et modélisation (a CNRS, Sorbonne Université & Paris-Diderot maths lab).

Prix Blaise Pascal du GAMNI/SMAI was awarded to Julie Delon, Professor at Paris-Descartes University and a member of the Mathématiques appliquées à Paris 5 CNRS & Paris-Descartes University maths lab. The Blaise Pascal du GAMNI/SMAI prize aims at promoting researches in mathematics applied to engineering and industry. It is awarded every year to a researcher under 40 years old ans working in France.
